Rapid Diagnostic Tests
Strip/Dipstick Tests

The strip format is the most simple and economical alternative for clinical diagnostic testing. The strip is designed for rapid determination of medical conditions in urine, serum, or blood specimens. To perform the test, the strip is dipped into a sample for 3 - 10 seconds. The reaction takes approximately 5 minutes for the visual appearance of control and test lines (usually one line for negative and two lines for positive results.) The results obtained can be qualitative or semi-qualitative formats, depending on  individual test or technique.

Cassette/Card Tests

The cassette format is a plastic device containing the reactive strip within a plastic mold. The cassette has a region to write on, which can greatly improve efficiency in a busy laboratory setting. The sample application is standardized by the use of a plastic dropper provided with every test kit. The sample is applied into a test well to ensure the steady sample flow through the reactive test region. The reaction takes
approximately 5 minutes for the visual appearance of control and test lines (usually one line for negative and two lines for positive results.) The results obtained can be qualitative or semi-qualitative formats, depending on individual test or technique
Midstream Tests

The midstream format has the reactive strip encased within a plastic mold with a removable protective cap. Midstreams are widely available commercially, usually for fertility tests. The sample collection and application is performed in one step by holding the test device under the urine stream for 10 seconds. The reaction takes approximately 5 minutes for the visual appearance of control and test lines (usually one line for negative and two lines for positive results.) The results obtained can be qualitative or semi-qualitative formats, depending on individual test or technique.
Panel Tests

The panel test is a plastic device that contains a multiple number of reactive test strips. The advantage of this device is uniform sample application (identical dipping time, temperature, etc) and quic result development for a number of tests, usually ranging from 2-12 test panels. These types of tests are most frequently used in drug screening for the quick detection of multiple parameters .
